Minor correction- the immobilizer doesn't actually prevent the car from starting. It will start, but a timer also starts and if the system doesn't get a clear read from the key transponder before timeout, the system activates and cuts out the fuel subsystem. I don't know what the timeout duration is, but the general idea is that the car can be
There are five generations immobilization system for Volkswagen: IMMO 1 would probably start off from 2004,around 2004 it requires a 4-digits PIN code, but you can get the PIN via OBD,you probably have to do this via bench. It does not require a dealer key and the transponder type is an ID48/PCF7935. To replace the switchblade or remove the immobilizer chip, see the pic above with the screw. Use an exacto knife to get under and pry up the VW badge to get to the screw underneath. I suggest pointing it at the screw head because there's a little space between the screw head and badge. The switchblade will come apart.
the ecu is of newer kind (EDC 17CP14-3.3 bosch part # 0 281 015 795) with an infineon based tricore cpu and there are not too many choices for trustworthy shops able to perform this task. digging through youtube it appears that the minimum required action to delete the immob is to open the sealed ecu reason for it seems to be 2-fold.
