I may have an opportunity to purchase a 2nd hand D version at about half the price of a new AFS version. I would be using this lens mainly for macro work and a bit for portraiture. What are the various opinions on bokeh, optical quality, contrast etc between the two lenses. Currently I have a Nikon 24-70 F2.8, 50mm F1.8, and 18-200VR. Cheers

Besides, you have VR on Nikon's 24-70 F2.8 since 2016. Wondering why Nikon would make two lenses with so close picture quality and one costs 2 times the other. Pricing depends more on the amount of glass in a lens than IQ. You shouldn't really compare an F2.8 lens in price to an F4 lens. The images you get are usually different wide open.
Those are probably moderate repairs with some sort of mount damage. $350 seems reasonable for the 500 PF, and $210 is not bad but that is almost half the value for the TC-14E. Way back in 2009, once my 70-200mm/f2.8 AF-S VR version 1 fell from tripod height onto the ground. Only manual focus was affected, AF wasn't.
