A cable or device which may have worked on a pc for example, wouldn't necessarily work on a car circuit, if there is a fault with the cable or device. USB is notorious for being sensitive.

I'd even go further and disconnect the battery for 10 mins which will reset the audio unit and front controls/ screen also. Sometimes the audio units can mess the sync modules about but usually it's the sync modules that fail. I have disconnected the battery and left it for half an hour.
